Obituary for our dear friend, Kenneth Francis LeBlanc
Dominion January 31, 1958 - July 4, 2021 “The man, the myth, the legend.” Ken passed peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit, Palliative Care, surrounded by his loving family. He gave a valiant effort, but his illness was larger than he was though he never gave up till the end. Ken started his career as a young man working alongside his dad in the family business, LeBlanc Wholesale. Later he would take over from his dad and make it his own. He was a man of many talents, working with various organizations including Purity Bakery, Cherrydale Farms and Stream, before beginning his most cherished career as the Coordinator for the After School Program at Riverside Elementary. He loved all the children that he crossed paths with, from pre-primary up to middle school. He held them all dear to his heart. Ken had a talent for finding unique solutions with his gift of gab. Ken will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. No one will ever forget the singular character of Ken. Ken said goodbye to his soulmate, best friend, and life partner of almost 40 years, Marguerite (MacDonald). He also bade farewell to his four children, daughter, Kirsten; Jacenta (Cyril) Roach and their son Lachlan; Tyrel (Nadine); Courtney (Rob) Burrows, and their children, Norah, Madelyn, and Isabelle. He is predeceased by his father, Sylvester, his parents-in-law, Angus and Dolly MacDonald, and nephew, Aaron. He leaves to mourn, his mother and confidant Joyce, with whom he had a special bond throughout his life, and his brothers and sisters; Gordon (Katherine); Patsy (Spencer) Brown; Anne-Shirley (Kenny) Pickford; Cathy (Bruce) Currie; Blair (Jacqueline); Sandra (Bram) Whittaker; and his brothers and sisters-in-law Allan, (Cheryl) MacDonald; Phraz (Gerry) Doucet; Campbell MacDonald; Colette (Glen Stockmal) MacDonald; Angus (Karen) MacDonald; Mary (Tony) O’Brien; and Jamie (Michelle) MacDonald. Also left to miss this great man are nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family too numerous to mention. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Cancer Center and Palliative Care Unit, in particular Dr. Ron MacCormick, with whom Ken felt a special bond; his nurse Joanna, and Dr. D’Intino who’s compassion, and care helped Ken on the final steps of his journey. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A Private Family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Donations may be made in honor of Ken to the Riverside Knowledge Path, the Food Bank or to a charity of your choice.
